It is hard to remember the rundown structure that once stood where this well-crafted cabana now stands. Originally a 1970s, flat-roofed structure, this pool cabana’s image was tired and worn, in desperate need of a revamp.
James Fleetwood, owner and founder of Fleetwood Building, was given a brief to convert the rundown dwelling into a comfortable entertaining space, revitalised with all the comforts of modern-day living. With a keen eye for detail, James and his team also endeavoured to create a well-designed building that would complement and enhance the main home’s aesthetic.
As with most renovations, this venture was not without its challenges. The clients wanted a cabana that would be functional and welcoming, equipped to entertain their large family, including their growing grandchildren and their friends.
The project required the complete renovation of both the exterior and interior, stripping the structure down to its most basic form. Minimal access to the site created an enormous challenge for James and his team, who could only access the area from the side gate of the home. A 15-metre uphill walk to the site was another hindrance, which James says made the eventual success of this project all the more satisfying.
The cabana is now a central entertaining hub of the home. With a bathroom, kitchenette and lounge, the dwelling houses all the necessities required for outdoor living and could be used as guest accommodation if needed. Sleek, polished concrete floors line the interior, adding style while providing an ideal wet area for poolside fun.
The stunning kitchenette includes a beautiful CaesarStone benchtop with a dramatic glass splashback surrounded by pristine two-pack semi-gloss cabinetry. The overall finish is modern and light-reflective. While compact, the layout and design of the Simple and immaculate, the landscaping of this outdoor area allows the pool and cabana to shine. cabana are functional and stylish — perfect for a poolside party.
Bi-fold timber doors connect the indoor and outdoor spaces organically and lead to the pool and adjacent outdoor patio. The brick exterior of the structure is contrasted by the limestone paving surrounds, offering a blast of fresh colour. Glass fencing surrounding the pool provides a seamless transition, softening the strong colour palette of the cabana’s exterior.
The project has been as rewarding for the company as it has been for the client. Once dark and unused, this cabana is now a favourite part of the house. It contains all the features of a functioning home without feeling cramped or utilitarian. This light, relaxing space will be enjoyed by the clients and their family for years to come and has no doubt increased the value of the home significantly. The cabana is now a jewel in the clients’ backyard, thanks to Fleetwood Building.
